About This Place

Located in the bustling heart of New York City’s East Village, Hou Yi Hot Pot offers a vibrant and interactive dining experience for lovers of authentic hot pot cuisine. Specializing in all-you-can-eat hot pot buffet style, this restaurant invites diners to immerse themselves in a flavorful adventure, where fresh ingredients meet rich, tantalizing broths.

One of the standout features at Hou Yi Hot Pot is the ingenious option to enjoy two different soups simultaneously in a single pot—perfect for those who want to balance spicy and mild flavors or explore a variety of tastes in one sitting. The spicy seafood broth, in particular, comes highly recommended, enveloping your palate with an intense yet addicting fiery warmth that customers rave about despite its heat. For those who appreciate a milder tone, the normal broth side offers a comforting counterpoint, ensuring everyone finds their perfect match.

The ingredient selection is plentiful and fresh, making it easy to craft your ideal hot pot experience. From delicate seafood and tender meats to vibrant vegetables and noodles, each bite bursts with freshness and invites you to experiment with different dipping sauces and spice levels. While the menu may be concise, the quality and variety represent a focused, delightful culinary journey rather than an overwhelming barrage of options.

The atmosphere at Hou Yi Hot Pot is casual yet lively, ideal for first-timers and seasoned hot pot fans alike. Many patrons appreciate the staff's attentiveness and patience—especially those new to hot pot culture—as the welcoming team takes the time to explain how the dining process works, easing any apprehensions. The presence of a service button on each table allows for quick assistance, though guests often mention they didn’t even need to press it, given the prompt and friendly service provided throughout their meal.

To round out the experience, the unlimited soft drinks and an all-you-can-eat ice cream bar are perfect sweet endings after a warm and spicy feast. One customer fondly recalls how the never-ending ice cream provided a cooling, creamy finish that balanced the lingering spice on their tongue. The pricing is extremely reasonable for the abundance, quality, and variety offered—making Hou Yi Hot Pot an excellent choice for a fun night out with friends or family eager to try something new.

Whether it’s your very first hot pot or you’re a seasoned enthusiast craving a convenient and satisfying meal, Hou Yi Hot Pot delivers with a perfect blend of heat, flavor, and hospitality. Service was really quick. Having the option for two soups in one pot was very useful. Unlimited ice cream ends the night nicely.

3.5 The pickled fish spicy pot is so spicy at medium level I can’t imagine high level, I had to drink so much ice water. Limited menu but not too bad.

Great service. It was my first ever hot pot experience and staff was very good at explaining how things worked. Unlimited ingredients + soft drinks for 30 dollars per person when I went. A lot of fun and cool to try new foods! Definitely coming back. Everything was absolutely delicious. Recommend the spicy seafood broth.

The medium spicy hot pot was tooooo hot for us. Our eyes were watering and we were all wimps rushing to get some lychee drink to help our burning mouths. Luckily the other side of our pot was normal so we stuck to that the rest of the night. They didn't tell us it was all you can drink, or eat, but we left feeling full and satisfied. Due to gluten issue I wasn't able to try all the sauces, but the broth didn't make me sick so that's a good sign. Ice cream variety reminded me of childhood. And the bean cakes were a big hit. Don't let the exterior deter you from this place.

As this was my first hot pot experience, I didn't know what to expect. I have nothing but praise for this restaurant. The staff is very attentive, and kind on top of that. There was a service button on the table but we didn't even need to use it as the staff was on top of their game all the time. The food quality is amazing, and the fact that it's all you can eat and drink is even better. They had a variety of broths, meats, veggies and noodles to put in; as well as a decent selection of drinks. I will definitely be returning to Hou Yi Hot Pot, possibly every time I go to NYC.

5 stars for food, 4 stars for service. All-you-can-eat hotpot. Very plain interior, but great selection of ingredients, sauces, and ice cream. You help yourself to any drinks you want (except beer/wine), mix up your own sauce, and circle on a sheet the type of broths you would like and ingredients. At the end of the meal, there's a pretty solid unlimited ice cream selection. Takes a while to flag down a waiter to take your order, and you will probably wait a while for a table even with a reservation. But it's worth it! Eat fast, because they will shuffle you out after your 100 minutes at the table,

Really Great and solid hot pot. Loved the free drinks and ice cream. Unfortunately don't be like me and overdo it with eating so much in a short amount of time. Pace yourself. Also, if you are going to get the extra spicy option, I warn you that your mouth and lips will burn. I have a really high spice tolerance, but this was really spicy for me. I loved it at first, but then it got painful. Also, they said that our time to eat was 2 hours. I'm not sure if we stayed below that or over that, but no one interrupted. But overall, I had a really good experience and ate lots.

Love the all you can eat option. Food quality is good, and taste is up to you. If you're a spice lover this is a good spot - even their medium spice level is pretty intense. Don't forget to get some Baijiu!
